“David Lynch’s article provides an excellent overview of practising Transcendental Meditation ( TM ). NS readers who followed this up by viewing Mr. Lynch’s website at davidlynchfoundation.org.uk will have noticed links to the website maharishifoundation.org.uk which suggests that the only means of learning TM in the UK is through the Maharishi Foundation.
Anyone considering learning TM should do as I did and look at Transcendental Meditation Independent UK on the following websites :
www.tm-meditation.co.uk
There is an alternative avenue open to would be TMers : look at the websites and make your own mind up – I did, like many others, and we didn’t regret it.”

“It’s been 3 months now since I first learned the simple Transcendental Meditation technique and it’s been the most balanced, harmonious, relaxing & productive time in my life so far. I say ‘so far’ because each day I keep growing stronger in energy due to the accumulative effects of daily TM practice. I now have the inner space to realize my full potential. TM has melted away all my underlying stresses, anxieties, hang ups, for me it’s been nothing short of miraculous.
Every human being should have access to their core inner peace source, but for some reason it’s like we’ve never been taught how to navigate through all the over-powering emotions and conditions that seem to leave us too often powerless and out of control of our own lives. Its like a lot of the time we’re at the mercy of our own emotions and fears.
From my own humble perspective I can see now that we all have the ability to tune our minds to a much sweeter vibration and in turn enjoy the infinite possibilities of life. I could go on about the endless benefits of this magical little technique but don’t want to come across all preaching. Sounds too good to be true doesn’t it. Aaaah the relief , all these years of stress and deep seeded fears stuck in a loop worrying over essentially nothing have totally gone”

“My name is Susan; I live near Newcastle upon Tyne and run my own small business. Eight years ago the world I knew fell apart in an instant. This brought me unbelievable sadness and there were times when I thought my brain would burst as it was constantly full of the stresses and strains of my new life. Then one day I spotted a TM leaflet in a local shop which planted the idea that meditation may be of help to me.  For about a year I considered TM but never found the time for my self as so much else was taking over my life. The unbelievable sadness continued and one day I just decided to be brave and give it a go.  I found my introduction to TM to be straightforward though finding the time to meditate was initially difficult, but with perseverance I have found the benefit of that blissful peace which TM gives me.  I begin TM with my head full of ‘stuff’ but when finished I seem able to prioritise and put things into perspective. TM has also helped me enormously with my blood pressure which began to rise this summer. I was told I needed medication for ‘life’. Hearing the word ‘life’ made my blood pressure rise even further and with the advice from my TM teacher and a blood pressure monitor I have managed to bring my blood pressure down and I am no longer being monitored by my doctor. I am thrilled about this and I know I shall always practice TM as it somehow brings me back down to earth and makes me aware of whom I am.”

“On learning TM I was in awe of the results that I received. It was a fantastic feeling to find a ‘tool’ that can be easily integrated into your daily life which can bring such relaxation to a stressful day!”

Lee ~ Scotland / Hongkong

“I practice TM for what it is – a simple and effective deep relaxation technique which has profound health benefits and not some religious mumbo jumbo. I find TM a valuable tool to help me to glide through the stresses of everyday life.”

“Having a stressful job I realised I had to do something and decided on TM.  For me it has been exceedingly useful and I can work much more effectively when I practise TM regularly.  I find that my energy levels increase substantially and I feel more positive in myself and more in control of my life.  I’ve also noticed a reduction in fatigue, better sleep and find I have more time for family and leisure.  I think so many diseases nowadays are stress related and TM produces physiological changes which enable the body to cope with the stress of modern day life.  Practice of TM could well lead to a reduction of drug medication especially in conditions like : asthma, duodenal ulcers, migraine etc”

“Before learning TM, I had been interested in meditation for a while and had taken classes and had tried out various types of meditation. I could see that they were all useful, but it was very hard to practice on my own and carry on going.
When I read David Lynch’s book, Catching the Big Fish, he made it sound so easy! So I decided to give TM a go.
I think that the thing about Transcendental Meditation is that it is an easy way into meditating that makes it easier to carry on going.
2 years on, although I go through phases of practising and sometimes not, in general I feel much more calm and in charge of myself. At the times when I go weeks without doing any, it is always good to know that the free follow up group sessions are there if I need the boost to get back into it. And I do notice that I need to get back into it when I am feeling a little irritable, or not so centred and life starts to feel like a bit of a frenzy. I find that it is especially at those times when I think that I don’t have the time to practice, that TM is actually most needed. It is a skill learnt for life.”

“I first learnt TM almost 20 years ago whilst working as a police officer in Newcastle.  I consider myself very fortunate to have learnt the technique.  Perhaps the best testimony to the tangible benefits of regular meditative practice are the number of friends and family (7 and counting! ) who, having seen the positive change in me, the decrease in my levels of stress and the general improvement in my day to day demeanour and levels of happiness decided they would also like to learn the technique.  I am delighted to wholeheartedly and unreservedly endorse the teaching and the technique.”

Nick ~ Newcastle upon Tyne.

“I first learned TM in the early seventies when it was well publicised by the Beatles.
Having suffering deep depression and after trying anti-depressants and realising I couldn’t function at all on them I decided to give TM a go.
I practised morning and night for a year and it helped a great deal. I was able to go back to work.
Unfortunately my meditating days diminished because I didn’t realise how much it had helped me.
Throughout the years I tried many different meditations but nothing came close to TM and I started to practise again but with children to raise I was not consistent.
Many, many years later I found this independent TM website on-line so decided to go along to the refresher course.
I was at a low time in my life having lost my husband and going through financial problems and my daughters having gone through their teenage years.
I’ve been practising again now for a few short months and my friends and family have noticed the difference in my temperament
Some of my friends have asked my secret as I’m more calm and even tempered and my eldest daughter reckons she can tell if I have not meditated that day!
My youngest daughter just notices that we don’t argue so much and life is more pleasant!
As for myself, I just wish I’d meditated throughout my life and life may have been a more pleasant experience.
I almost forgot the reason I looked the site up on-line was because my blood pressure had been raised for a while and I wanted to try to lower it in a natural way and since meditating again its down to a normal safe level.”
