Even though Vanessa feels fortunate to be able to do something she loves for a living, she also needs time to decompress. Meditation is one of her favorite ways to do that. During an interview with The New York Times, Vanessa said, “I usually meditate twice a day, Transcendental Meditation. For some reason, I always forget to meditate on Sunday, because it’s such a weird day, and I’ll remember at 5 and meditate for 20 minutes. And it’s great, because I’ll feel like I’m getting something done. Even though I am sitting on the couch.”

“I’m a new mother. My daughter—she’s such a gift—but there is sometimes a challenge concerning sleep! No matter how much support you have. But where am I going to get those six hours that I used to get? Where did it go?” “There’s been so many different ways TM has blessed me, but in this particular moment, as a new mother, I take 20 minutes. Not only do I find the deepest rest that I need, that my body is desperate for—but it feels like I’ve stolen two-plus hours, maybe three hours, from the clock.”

Lowe says that meditation has helped him approach his daily life with a clear head. When he’s confronted with a difficult situation, “I have this feeling of, ‘Oh, there was a time when this would have me feel angry, irritable, or tense, but today, I don’t care about that,'” Lowe says.
