What are you doing with this unexpected time?
“Not a lot. We’ll take a walk along the lake, I’ll walk the dog. I do my meditation, which I learned in December of ’67 from Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. He taught us meditation and I still do it to this day. It’s been a big part of my life in that it’s a technique which you can do and it can lower your metabolism to a level of rest twice as deep as deep sleep. So it’s profoundly restful and relaxing and therefore helpful. It’s really good for you.”

Interesting article. Although Transcendental Meditation was first taught as a spiritual technique when it arrived in the west 60 years ago, it was quickly recognised as an incredibly effective method of coping with the pressures of everyday life. Hence why it is so popular among business people.

“She told me she learned Transcendental Meditation and followed with, “If you ever want to learn meditation, learn TM. When you learn TM, you know that you are truly meditating. TM is sort of like the ‘Cadillac of meditation.’ “ Those words stayed with me.”

BREATHE: Stress and emotions play a huge role in your journey. You have to commit yourself to reducing your stress levels, while navigating your emotions. As a person who meditates, I have taken on transcendental meditation. It’s a great stress reliever for me. You have to find what works for you, but take those moments […]

From The Chicago Tribune (Part of article) “Keep working into your 60s, but be sure to recharge batteries.
One of my favorite daily habits is to take 20 minutes twice a day for Transcendental Meditation. I learned the technique when I was 12 and have meditated every day since. According to some research, the deep rest available during TM is profoundly more powerful than the rest we achieve at the deepest levels of regular sleep.

“What advice would you give your younger self? I wish I had known about transcendental meditation when I was in my 20s. I started doing this about a year and a half ago, and I’ve noticed a big difference, even creatively. It’s not like a dogma, it’s not some kind of set of standards; it’s just something you do two times a day that has this odd effect, where you find yourself walking around and things that used to trigger you are still there, but you don’t get hooked by it as easily. It’s been awesome to see how it affected my life, and I wish I had started that back in my 20s because I was on fire in my 20s. In good ways and bad ways. And I think that would’ve helped. I think that’s a useful tool for actors, especially young actors first coming out of school and dealing with the pressures of the industry and trying to just make it in this expensive, crazy city. To have something like transcendental meditation to keep you sane and centered and mentally healthy is really helpful.”

“I used to love transcendental meditation,” Mendes said to TZR at a recent even celebrating her latest collection with New York & Company. “Since the kids, it’s been so hard to take that time out. Meditation was the first thing to go, which was the first thing that I needed to keep. I really have to incorporate that back into my life.”

Having meditated since 1995, the actor has found it effective in alleviating chronic pain, which a growing body of research supports.  “Life gets more complicated and stressful the older you are. I no longer find [meditation] fun and interesting — I find it a lifesaver,” Danson tells Everyday Health.

She said, “I do transcendental meditation. I’ve been doing it for a year or two now, and it’s changed my life. I never was good at meditating, but that one’s good thing – there are no rules. You just chill with your mantra and you just say it over and over again. No matter what, you’re not doing it wrong. No app. Just silence.”

“I can meditate even if there’s loud noise. Even if I have makeup or my glam team touching me. That’s the beauty of it. I’ve never been so calm and relaxed,” she added.
